From Staff Attorney to First Lady

Kristin Bernhardt, wife of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, has dedicated her life to serving others. After graduating from law school, she worked as a staff attorney with the North Carolina General Assembly. In 2003, she left her position to become a guardian ad litem for foster children in Wake County.

As First Lady, Kristin Cooper has continued her commitment to helping those in need. She has launched several initiatives, including a program to provide free legal services to low-income families and a campaign to address the issue of child hunger in North Carolina.

A Family of Service

Kristin and Roy Cooper have three daughters, all of whom have followed in their parents' footsteps by dedicating their lives to service. Their eldest daughter, Hilary Cooper, is a Senior Director Manager and Assistant General Counsel for a major corporation. Their middle daughter, Natalie Cooper, is a lawyer who works for a non-profit organization providing legal assistance to low-income families. Their youngest daughter, Claire Cooper, is a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is pursuing a degree in social work.
