The Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a trade that will send third baseman Isaac Paredes to the Rays in exchange for third baseman Christopher Morel, the teams announced Wednesday.
Paredes, 25, is a two-time All-Star and is coming off a season in which he batted .245 with 29 home runs and 95 RBIs. Morel, 23, is a rising star who batted .279 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 2022.
The trade is a significant move for both teams. The Cubs are getting a young, talented player in Morel who has the potential to be a star. The Rays are getting a proven All-Star in Paredes who can help them compete for a World Series title.
